I have decided to update after a hell of a long time. I figure I owe it to myself because I just finished my final term paper for "the spanish inquisition." It was quite possibly the longest paper of my life. So here is what I have been doing lately: Sitting on my ass Teaching Going to class (sometimes...it depends) and going out at night
Apparantely it is my "thing" to go out on Wednesday nights and get too..I'll say "vulnerable" to go to school the next day. Luckily, this thursday I do not have school. So needless to say I am going to reward myself for finishing my paper. Speaking of Wed nights, Juliene and I went to this one bar called Chesterfield and we met this guy that she knows from here (really fucking hot might I add) well...really...to make a long story short we were both entered into a beer drinking competition. haha...we were really kinda forced onto the stage and forced into the competition. But hey, free beer is better than no beer. That night was sooooo unbelievably fun. Especially considering I woke up half naked and started freeking out. And Juliene and I pre-gamed it at VIPS and got extremely tipsy off of a 6 dollar bottle of white wine. haha. And we ate a kick ass banana split. So I really miss Christmas music. It came on when I was in supersol on Monday...but it wasn't the same! I really wanna listen to "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" and all of my other favorite Christmas music. I miss snow too. If it snowed here, I might cry because it would be so pretty. I would actually walk my ass down to sol (Les, Nik and Kel you know where that is!) to see the lights with the snow. OOOOOOhhhhh I wish it would...but it probably won't. Maybe it will be a CHRISTMAS MIRACLE! I can only hope. Being here amazes me every day a little bit more. |

Let's see. I am sitting here bored out of my mind waiting for five o'clock to come so I can go teach my class. I had two midterms today. French and Spanish. Spanish=good. french=awful/the worst language of all time. Tomorrow is my math midterm and I forgot about it until today Amy was like "if you are bored, why don't you just study for your math midterm tomorrow?" I really want to come home for Christmas. I talked to a few people that I hadn't in a while and it just made me miss them even more. oh, I miss sledding and decorating the christmas tree and blasting christmas music the first-the last day it comes on 100.3...you know how I do. So I can't help but think that something is missing in my life. I think I know what it is, but maybe I am just sad right now because it is almost thanksgiving and I have a shit ton of midterms. Well my last one is tomorrow so all should be well. robin's friends are coming to visit her next week. I am excited to meet them, they sound really cool. I wish MY friends would come to Spain to visit me. ahem ahem. anways I must go down to the computer lab to print something out. Peace. |

So I am sitting here...trying to write an outline for a paper I haven't even started thinking about. It's a tid bit difficult. Yesterday was such a busy day! Let's see...class from 9-12 (I didn't go until 11, but what can ya do?) *break until 2* class from 2-6:30 ESL 7-8 8-probably around 10: hung out in the boys dorms and fought for my pontytail holder back (foosball style) Then the rest of the night was composed of me not being able to find my keys and none of my roommates were home (seriously unbelievable) so Tony and I just sat on a bench outside of my building...and smoked because we had nothing else to do. Whatever works. I slept like a baby. Tomorrow morning I leave to see marta. I am pretty excited...but I am pretty sick too. I have gotten sick so much here! Dammit. Here are some things to people I think read this. Lauren- I love you. and the things you write in your LJ are so true. I miss you hun. Nikki- I called you like a billion times. I really want to hear the stories. I miss you carino. Phil-dude...I love you dude. I was telling Franco that if I didn't talk to you often I would be really upset. He didn't understand why I felt that way. Alysa- where the hell have you been? I miss you sweetheart. Kelly- where the hell have you been too? It's like where's waldo. You would love it here. does anyone else read my LJ besides these people? I have no idea. Sometimes Ashley. Ashley- I miss you so much! I miss hearing your voice and your jokes in class. Now I just sit there...unable to take pictures during a test..haha dixon. Leslie- COME VISIT. I expect to see you in the spring...if not...caput! Awww man we are about to have so much fun. Dutchess- I love you. |

So I got back from Valencia yesterday which was awesome. The city was so pretty and it was so much warmer than it is here at home. And the weird thing is, when I was on the airplane back to Madrid I was like "I can't wait to get home" and I actually meant in my apartment. That is so strange to me because I have never considered any other place my home until now. So I started to cry today, because Franco was making me laugh so hard. I want to cut his hair...but like everyone, he also refused the invitation for a free haircut. It reminded me of the time Phil let me cut his hair. And now I am not allowed to touch it. haha. I didn't mention that part when I was telling Franco that I was a "professional" haha. He says to me "Maybe I will call you tomorrow. I will say one of two things: 'I have already cut my hair.' Or 'can you cut my hair tonight?'but I am 99% sure I will say the first one." Ohhh I got a job. Haayyy! That is what I am talking about. I make 14 € an hour doing absoultely nothing. hah! Well I am doing something, but it is something that I like to do. (teach english to children) What else? Today was just really funny and great in general. I was talking to Robin about making money here. And we decided we can do two things. We can make some stuff and sell it at retiro. Or we can just dress poorly and sit on the street in Sol. I told her that we could like sit on one of our legs so it looks like we lost one. I swear I saw one homeless man do that. We just laughed so hard about the thought of us doing that. But most likely, the homeless here in Spain have this like "secret organization" and they will probably like threaten us if we are on their turf. Which would be pretty amusing after we are finished being scared to death.
I have a midterm tomorrow. Maybe I should study. But knowing me, I probably won't.
cool cosa about spain Any given Sunday you can go down to retiro and they have a drum circle where everyone is just smoking, drinking, and dancing in this public park. Everyone is doing it, so the cops don't do anything. It is so awesome to just dance around and not care about anything. Just go with the flow. |

So along with every entry, I will post what I find werid or like extremely cool about spain.
I met Robin's "interest" here and he is pretty nice. He and his friend are very cute. And they told me that I spoke like a spanish person, which made me happy. So on saturday we are all going out with them. And he can drive! I FINALLY get to be in a car that is not a taxi! thank god! I went to the American Store today and bought spaghetti sauce, reeses, Dr.Pepper and roman noodles. Needless to say, I have already eaten the reeses. I had a bio midterm yesterday, which I failed. I had a french midterm today, which I failed. Well...perhaps I am exaggerating a little....but not much! We had an oral exam for the first part in french and the people on the tape spoke SO fast that all I put down on the paper was "je non sais pas" (I don't know) I mean if I were the teacher, i'd accept that as an answer, wouldn't you? Yeah....shit probably not. The bio exam went well up until the short answer which i totally and completely made up. And by made up I actually am dead serious. I even made up words that were "in" the fluid mosaic model. Afterwards, I went home and ate a pint of ice cream. Real fucking cool Janelle. What else? oh my god. So Robin and I decided that we hate the little "artifacts" around our apartment so we put them all in a plastic bag and stored them somewhere. Let me tell you what was in the bag. A lego ship (WHY THE HELL WAS THERE A LEGO SHIP IN OUR LIVING ROOM??) blue glass ducks, ugly paintings, more ducks, ugly little pots....and the list continues. Then I was standing on the couch trying to see what was on top of the dresser thing and you will never guess what I found. A SWORD! Needless to say I was VERY amused. Then later that day the maid came in my room and asked me where the lego ship was. I just laughed and told her we didn't like it. Ok...weird cosa about Spain. You can buy milk, and store it for a VERY long time in room temperature without it going bad. Isn't that weird??
I miss Phil. |

Leave your name and 1. I'll respond with something random about you. 2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you. 3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in. 4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me. 5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you. 6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of. 7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you. 8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal. You MUST!!!! |

I figure all of my updates have been about people's birthday's. So I'll change it up a little.
Is it weird that sometimes I don't realize when people are speaking spanish to me? Or maybe it's just awesome. I mean, I reply to what they say and have a conversation. But like five minutes later I will be like "what? are we speaking in spanish?" For example. I was watching sex and the city and it literally took me five to ten minutes to figure out the language was in spanish. Maybe I just inderstand it without even realizing it. My spanish teacher speaks so fast. You don't have enough time to think about what he is saying, so you just have to understand. I love it...because I do just understand. Speaking is a different issue. I think I will conquer that next. I got a package in the mail today. Ahhhh...here are the contents. clothes, french dictonaries, shampoo, slippers, my winter coat, soup, rice crispy treats, brownie mix....and...macaroni and cheese! That is probably the one thing I miss the most. I really miss my mom's mac and cheese. And she sent me the velveeta kind too! It actually made me extremely happy. So I love it here. To say the least. On the weekdays, I do absolutely nothing except go to class and study (except Mon and Wed I teach an english class) but I feel so...I don't know. Accomplished? Like I am happy with doing nothing because it feels like I am doing everything. So I realized my 12 page paper is due sooner than I thought. Meh. I really love that class, so it won't be too difficult to write. I am going to Bilbao on the 21st. Amy and I are touring Madrid on saturday. I love spain. But i really miss the dutchess. I miss talking to her at night before I go to bed. |

Ok so last night my phone starts ringing while I was in bed at like 11:30. Now it was a school night, so I was like what the hell, it must be someone from home. Nope...it was Franco. It was so funny because I answered the phone and he goes "Heya Janella! You wanta to go outa right now?" I am like What time is it? 11:30. Naturally I am like hell no. SO he tells me that it will be free. I still said no then went to bed. Amy was so confused as to why he was going out. So the next day I am talking to this boy in one of my classes and he is telling me how he got home at like 5 in the morning. And I am like WHHHHAAAATTTT. So I am really glad I didn't decide to go with them. But tonight..although it is a school night...it's a holiday! Granted it's not MY holiday/independance day...but viva mexico! haha... What else? I miss everybody there. I really wish you guys could see/meet what/who I am talking about. Everything here is amazing. So my french teacher sweats profusly. And one day he comes in like RUNNING. So the rest of the time sweat is literally dripping off his face. I actually saw beads of sweat fall from his nose and chin. I told Alex that today and he goes "I know! I've seen it! It's really bad!" The class is getting better. I used to like cry every time I had to go to it because I never understood what he was saying. But now, if I pay close attention the language is fairly similar to spanish so I can catch some of it. Sooooo....yeah. |

So my roommates and I are planning a trip to amsterdam. I probably couldn´t be more excited. Robin wants to do it soon so hopefully we will find a break. We were going to go this weekend, but our internet wasn´t working in our apartment ( and still isn´t by the way) so we couldn´t buy the plane tickets. Friday is a holiday in madrid...we have SO many random holidays with no school. It makes me happy. I would tell stories about what has been happening..but it would kinda be boring considering no one knows who I am talking about except my mom really... Well I´ll say some stuff about my classes. My spanish class is very easy. My french class is taught in spanish for the first part of the hour, then french the last part. I understand the spanish just fine...but it is french one, of course I don´t understand it! My biology teacher broke her toe, so she hasn´t been there...haha. My spanish inquisition class will be pretty hard. But that is what college is all about, right? And my math class...haha don´t even get me started. Pretty much, it´s like highschool all over again. Except with cheaper/smaller classrooms/sizes. Meh, at least I am used to it. And I guess I am getting the whole college experience from my apartment. Well guys I´m off to "Mathematics for the uninclined" aka algebra.
ps. Lauren, I emailed Alysa my address. And now she has my email too. So get all of that from her. |

My 18th birthday was just made that much better because I have an older sister. An older sister who is still an enigma to me...but I love putting the pieces together. So I went to a jazz lounge with her and learned the secret art of clapping. It is more complicated than many of you think...it takes skill. And further into the night this ladies "9th annual 25th birthday" (or so she called it) was going on so she sang a couple of songs. That was really cool. Then she asked if there were any Leo's in the house so the people who were raised their hand and got a little crown and cake! Ohhh man, that cake was oh so good. Then later in the night...I never. Haha. I am so glad that Aly, Nikki, and Kelly came over because that was pretty fun. I love trampoline's anyways! So Dana is home. And now she is gone again. I'm kind of hungry. Phil is coming over as I am writing this. I haven't seen him in like 3 weeks. I miss my friends already. And I can't wait to come home. |

So last night was fun. Well, actually, yesterday was fun. 311 played a good show...and I saw Geoff there, which was so random. Shilvonne leaves tomorrow. I am gonna miss her! I really wish that I could play tennis again. Helping out is always so fun and some of the stuff Shirl says is outrageous. "Melanie! Stop being such a bitch!" justin: "I cannot believe you just said that." shirl : "well I call 'em like I see 'em." With everything that has been happening lately I just can't help but wonder... is this fate? |

So I get asked to work last night and I agree. I have decided long ago that I hate the night shifts (the one's until 2 in the morning) because of various reasons. But that little fact seemed to have slipped my mind when I said I would work. The first two hours were outrageous. We weren't busy, and when we were we had 4 people on the line. And Keith, Zachary and Tim had me rolling. "Yeah well I gotta go teach Tool how to drum." "I can guarantee if we teleport to MSU right now, he'll be there lying about everything!" and when Kieth told me this one story about a fake movie with an ending that never happened...I lost it. Yeah, what I just said was really confusing...but the story almost made me pee my pants. But that was only 2 hours. So from like 11:30 to 12:30 people just decide to eat at Qdoba. Honestly...you should have eaten dinner like 5 hours ago. Anyways. But at 12:45 this group of no joke 15 ladies came in all drunk off their ass. I was SOOOOOOOO pissed. So I wait on one of them and she goes "Yo quiero un burrito de pollo" and I'm like fine ok whatever I'll make you a chicken burrito. But then she is still speaking spanish and I am like lady could you just? I mean really...you are drunk and I am probably the only person working here who understands you. Now normally I would be amused. But keep in mind we had 15 minutes until closing time and it looked like these bastards would be staying. Indeed. Then...oh dear. This drunk guy was BANGING on the windows wanting food and even tried to wedge his fingers in the door to pry it open. So I open the door to tell him we are closed and have no food left and I the alcohol smell just OVER POWERS me. He is slurring his words, stumbling everywhere. I was actually terrified. So I asked him politely to leave and he did but I was really scared! I hate Qdoba. |
